The Hurricane Disaster Exercise is an exciting, realistic management simulation. It tests the ability of managers and supervisors to effectively develop plans and strategies, solve problems and make the correct decision in critical situations as it further develops their leadership skills.
The exercise centers on a fast-moving Category 3 hurricane that is raging across the northern Caribbean islands. Suddenly the hurricane veers sharply toward the northwest and tracks up the east coast of Florida, only 50 miles offshore as it heads for the resort community of San Cristobal on Solono Key. An emergency preparedness team in San Cristobal meets to evaluate the danger and determine whether the island community should be evacuated. The decision team must quickly update its emergency preparedness action plan by obtaining critical additional information, assessing available resources and analyzing the overall situation. If the team does not order evacuation it must decide how the island population can best be protected from the fury of Hurricane Judy.
Based on information provided by the National Hurricane Center and governmental emergency preparedness agencies. Suitable for all organizational levels.
