The Alien Encounter Exercise is an exciting simulation that challenges employees as they develop more effective communication, decision making and team skills.
The exercise centers on a space shuttle mission to repair the malfunctioning Hubble Space Telescope. After repairing the errant satellite and completing the balance of their mission, the tired and fatigued shuttle crew is engaged in de-orbit preparations when they have an unexpected visitor. The shuttle crew is challenged to clearly describe what they see to Mission Control and then determine how to establish communication with "visitors" who share a different cultural and values system. At the same time a Mission Control team must decide whether the shuttle crew should risk remaining in orbit in the hope of contacting the aliens or proceed with the scheduled de-orbit burn.
Based on space shuttle mission information and data provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Suitable for all organizational levels.
